Abstract

Yellow Saddle Goatfish Algorithm (YSGA) is a new metaheuristic algorithm, which attempts to model the cooperative hunting behaviour of yellow saddle goatfish to solve optimization problems. It has been found to be very effective in exploring complicated search spaces. An improved version of YSGA is offered in this work where the zone changing stage which is one of the most important components which assure the determination of the balance between the exploration and the exploitation is enhanced in a systematic manner to enhance the convergence behaviour. The principal goal behind changing the zone-changing mechanism will be to move faster towards the global optimum and minimize the likelihood of premature convergence towards local optima. The modified algorithm is highly tested across 23 standard benchmark functions of different dimension coded in MATLAB. The convergence rate, local minima, and trade-off between exploration and exploitation are examined with regard to performance. Comparative results indicate that the modified YSGA improves upon the original YSGA and demonstrates competitive performance against well-known algorithms such as Cuckoo Search, Grey Wolf Optimization and Moth-Flame Optimization in terms of fitness values and convergence behaviour. Moreover, the applicability of the modified approach is proven by the fact that it is applied to three engineering optimization problems. Besides, statistical test is performed to ensure validity of the findings as well. Altogether, the noticed improvements prove the high capability of the modified YSGA to solve the large-scale optimization issues and give a promising background to the further evolution of the metaheuristic optimization techniques.
